In-Country

This part of the blog lays dormant as Blogger, Wordpress, Facebook and many American internet services are blocked in China.  This includes many of the functions of Google besides basic gmail and also Youtube.  While every room has internet access, full freedom of the world-wide-web is not yet a reality in mainland China.

If concerned about your travel blog, you can use this service which checks the blog address from multiple locations (including Beijing): http://internetsupervision.com

Some possibilities for a travel blog which may work in the USA and China include Travbuddy and Travelpod.  Or you could use a Chinese blog site like Sohu.

Another option is to subscribe to a VPN service to block your IP address. A couple of our 2012 travelers did this and were able to use Facebook and other sites while in China.  What a coup!
